Universal Life Church Ministries The Legal Defense Fund
The Universal Life Church Ministries, based in Seattle, Washington, is one of the largest and most active religious organizations on the planet. We’ve ordained millions of individuals around the world via the internet, and are perhaps most widely recognized for our belief that any person who feels so-called deserves the right to become an ordained minister. Chances are, you’ve attended a wedding officiated by a ULC minister! You may even be one yourself!
Why Help Our Story
The Universal Life Church Ministries was founded on the belief that we are all children of the same universe, and that we all have a responsibility to do that which is right. All people are worthy of respect, and everyone deserves equal rights. Our foundational principles have led us on a mission to promote social justice and protect the rights of all our ministers.
Over the years, we’ve turned to the legal system to protect and ensure the equality of those rights. This has included places like Pennsylvania, and our attorneys at Davis Wright Tremaine are battling it out in Tennessee after the legislature in that state passed an egregious law declaring that marriages performed by ministers who were ordained over the internet were not considered valid. You can review more information about legal cases involving the ULC here… and we’re not done yet!
Help fund the ULC Legal TeamSupport Us Continuing the Fight
These aren't easy battles to fight, and the Universal Life Church Ministries does not intend to rest until it has secured for its ministers the equal rights each deserves. As you might imagine, the cost of these legal actions is substantial, and diverts efforts away from other good works by Universal Life Church Ministries.
To help us continue this important fight, we humbly ask you to consider making a contribution to our legal defense fund. Any amount, however small, will help. Your contribution will be used directly to defend and expand the rights of your fellow ministers, and promote social justice. No amounts will be used for our other administrative expenses.
